Handbags and shoes are the epicenter here and justifiably so since the company grew out of Guccio Gucci’s leather goods company in Florence which also gave rise to the equestrian motif. Today, Gucci is almost synonymous with luxury goods given the ubiquity of its double G logo.
Gucci was brought back from the brink of extinction by creative genius of Tom Ford and the business acumen of Domenico De Sole. Ford brought an edginess and aggressiveness to the design that matched the street motif of the music and art of the late 90’s . With a marketing strategy to match the brand took off and has not looked back. Ford and De Sole are gone and Pinault-Printemps group are now the owners, but Gucci marches on as the aspirational brand for the nouveau riche jet setters across the world.
The signature canvas bags and leather goods are the foundation of Gucci’s portfolio of products. The focus now is very much urban with ready-to-wear apparel complementing the bags and shoes. Then there are the Gucci collections for women and men, though these have been toned down a little since Frida Giannini took over from Ford.Unlike several other luxury stores which have the same minimalist look, you are never allowed to forget you are in a Gucci store. The interlocking double G logo is emblazoned everywhere from the walls to the carpeting!
